Religious Exploration Coordinator

Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Religious Exploration Coordinator (REC) will be to provide logistical support for the Religious Exploration (RE) program for ages 3-14; and to plan and coordinate the program with the Religious Exploration Committee and Minister.

Hours

Ten hours per week, including approximately 3-4 hours each Sunday and office hours scheduled at the Director’s convenience and in coordination with the Minister, at times that best serve the needs of the congregation. The REC will attend scheduled RE Committee meetings and other meetings as assigned by or agreed upon with the Minister.

Compensation

The Religious Exploration Coordinator is a part-time hourly position. Weekly hours can be adjusted by the Minister in consultation with the Religious Exploration Committee and Board of Trustees to meet particular and/or unexpected needs of the church.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate and support volunteer teachers, including facilitating the purchase of materials and supplies, and organizing curriculum materials.
  • Provide on-site coordination and supervision on Sunday mornings.
  • Collaborate with the Minister in planning Multi-Generational services.
  • Prepare and lead assigned Time for All Ages during Sunday worship.
  • Maintain weekly office hours.
  • Coordinate class summaries and other RE notices for the monthly Messenger.
  • Respond to questions and concerns of families and congregational leaders within one week.
  • Keep records related to RE program, including registration, attendance lists, financial transactions, and class/teacher lists.
  • Attend monthly RE Committee meetings, bi-weekly supervision meetings with the minister, and all scheduled staff meetings.
  • Attendance at one Board of Trustees meeting during the year.
  • Maintain membership with the Liberal Religious Educators Association (LREDA) for collegial support and connections.
  • Consult with UU colleagues for best practices in addressing emergent challenges
  • Utilize volunteer knowledge and resources within the congregation

The REC will perform other duties as time allows.

Reporting Relationships

The REC will be supervised by the Minister. REC professional goals will be determined in collaboration with the RE committee and the Minister. The Minister will perform a mid-year review and an end-of-year review. The Minister, in addition to the RE committee, will provide professional support and consultation for the REC.

Performance Assessment

The Minister will perform a mid-year review and an end-of-year review using the review process developed by the Personnel Committee.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for and experience working with children.
  • Knowledge of Unitarian Universalist principles and values and enthusiasm for Unitarian Universalism.
  • Administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to learn, ability to teach and familiarity with UU curricula.
  • Creativity and the capacity to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ease in relating to people with a wide variety of religious views.
  • The REC should be comfortable using technology, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, Facebook, and MailChimp, or willing and able to learn.
