Past YouTube Services

These videos were created during the first six months of the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020. These were professionally produced by our member David Teubner. Later KUUC went to the Zoom platform and eventually to LIVE streaming on YouTube.

March 22, 2020 “Our First Virtual Service”

March 29, 2020 “Between Wisdom and Love”

(Rev. Michael) Buddhist author Jack Kornfield claims that, “Wisdom says we are nothing. Love says we are everything. Between these two our life flows.” Today we will think together about the wisdom of the heart and the heart of wisdom and share from our experience about each.

April 5, 2020 “Is Freedom Just Another Word?”

(Rev. Michael) We begin our first full month of “virtual” worship services, which corresponds with National Poetry Month with a celebration of this month’s theme of liberation through the lens of poetry.

April 12, 2020 “Unburdening Easter”

(Rev. Michael) Perhaps the opportunity to celebrate the timeless Easter themes of rebirth, resurrection and the possibility of true freedom, will be easier to do without the hectic pace that is often associated with this holiday. Let’s make it so.

April 19, 2020 “What the Earth Needs”

(Rev. Michael) As it is “Climate Justice Month” with Earth Day just around the corner, Rev. Michael asks what the Earth needs from us now and what we can do to liberate ourselves along with her.

April 26, 2020 “The New Story”

(Rev. Michael) As we go on biding our time in sequester, we continue to think, to dream, to connect and reconnect with others and to tell our stories. Rev. Michael asks for stories from this strange and risky time to be alive. Please send him your stories, small and large, and let him know what if and thing can and cannot be shared—or can be shared without attribution.

May 3, 2020 “The Press”

(Rev. Michael) The free press is supposed to be an instrument of accountability in a democracy, yet it is also can be a nuisance, and rarely is it free from bias. On World Press Freedom Day, we take a look at the fourth estate in the post-truth age.

May 10, 2020 “Mothers United”

(Rev. Michael) Mother’s Day is certainly a popular holiday in this, and many other countries, with differing points of emphasis. Besides, its usual celebration of motherhood, we will look at other ways this holiday was envisioned— which might provide us with new models to choose from.

May 17, 2020 “Plessy & Brown”

(Rev. Michael) With the possible exception of the Dred Scott ruling, no court decisions have impacted race relations in America more than Plessy vs Ferguson and Brown vs. the Board of Education. Where are we now in the struggle for racial equality?

May 24, 2020 “Let It Be a Dance”

(Rev. Michael) This service is something of a wild card. It may be a new kind of Music Sunday for the “Covid-19 Era,” or it might be a celebration of the ways we move through life. You’ll just have to wait and see.

May 31, 2020 “Break on Through”

(Rev. Michael) Sometimes people get stuck in the mire, sometimes larger systems, (like cities and churches), can’t seem to break through to a new way of being themselves. What is the big secret to finding success while not losing yourself in the effort?

June 7, 2020 “Let It Be a Dance”

(Rev. Michael) This service is something of a wild card. It may be a new kind of Music Sunday for the Covid-19 Era, or it may be a celebration of the ways we move and are moved by the music of life. You’ll just have to wait and see.

June 14, 2020 “No Participation, No (Good) Government”

(Rev. Michael) Ours is a voluntary association with a congregational (member-led) form of polity (or governing structure). Today is Annual Meeting, and our service touches on how this yearly event brings together and blends our theology, polity and traditions with the people who comprise this congregation now. How should the time, treasure and talent our membership—and non-member friends– -gives to the congregation be used to preserve what is important, let go what isn’t? What new ideas should we explore and support to live our mission and expand our influence as a free religion in the Monadnock region.

June 21, 2020 “Flowers to a Fare Thee Well”

(Rev. Michael) The last service of what is often referred to as the “church year,” the more formal 10-month journey from late summer to the beginning of summer, today’s service is as much a new beginning as it is an end. We will celebrate our annual Flower Communion ceremony in a very different way and celebrate some of the people who have made 2019-2020 a memorable and important year in the life of our congregation; even amid some very harsh times in the world around us.
